 Paradise found: Photos by Walter Parsons Minimize

The 18 color photographs on this page were taken 40-plus years ago by Walter Parsons of Dalton, Ga., at an F/X-funny car meet at Paradise Drag Strip in Calhoun, Ga. Like the other shots from Paradise on this site, taken by Ronnie Evans, these depict the racing of that era at Southern outlaw tracks that is astonishing in its lack of safety measures -- spectators lining the track just feet from a speeding Arnie Beswick, with no guardrail to speak of in sight, their shadows cast across the racing surface.
The order of the pictures as you scroll down is as follows:
 *Road Runner Sr. (Al Mason, I believe, in a great-looking homemade FXer) vs. Robert Nance in his handsome Little Mr. Plymouth Valiant, followed by a pic of the Road Runner Sr.;
 *Nance vs. an unknown Willys gasser (anyone recognize it?);
 *Don Hutton Valiant from Greenback, Tenn., vs. Willys;
  *the scary Hood, Hefner and Potter Barracuda from Chattanooga, Tenn.;
 *Corrupter's Pup Dart of C.J. South;
 *two pictures of Beswick -- one returning down the track after a pass, and the next taking on the Strip Teaser Falcon with Howard Neal aboard;
 *two shots of the Bly and Walker Barracuda;
 *the next five of Pee Wee Wallace, including a huge wheelstand;
 *Willys vs. unknown Anglia;
 *closing with a '57 Chevy B/MP, the Golden Tornado.
